Here's one of those lovely items that make blog-watching so gratifying. Thomas Mahon, whose English Cut blog met with our approval in Hot Sites recently, has a wonderful throwaway anecdote about Fred Astaire in this eulogy for a tailors' shop, updated today. Somewhere, a biographer of Mr. Astaire perks up her ears, a piece of the puzzle found after having dropped onto the carpet of history; for the rest of us, a wonderful mental image.
